Seasonal Weather
The year-round average temperature is 74.1 degrees. In the summer
months, the average temperature is 81 degrees, sometimes reaching the
mid-90s, but rarely reaching 100 degrees. This time of year is very
humid.
In the winter months, the temperatures are in the 70's during the day,
and the 40's in the evening hours. Rainfall averages about 50 inches
per year, most of which occurs during the late summer afternoons,
cooling the day for a nice summer evening. Hurricane Watchfulness The
hurricane season starts in June and continues through November,.
Warnings and advice are provided by the medial and local authorities.
The watches and warnings precede any hurricane by several days, so
ample time is available to prepare. Many residents have never
experienced a hurricane, but it is important to be prepared. Respect Wildlife There are
state laws and county regulations to protect our native flora and
fauna. Be sure you and your family are aware of such laws. There are some local species which should
be avoided. Alligators, unless provoked, rarely attack humans.
Nevertheless, there have even deaths and serious injuries from
alligator/human encounters. They may appear to be slow of foot on land,
but over a short distance, they can outrun a man. It is illegal to feed
alligators or to poach their eggs. Snakes are also best lift alone. There
are some poisonous snakes in Florida - the rattlesnake, water moccasin
(also known as the cottonmouth), and the coral snake. Bites are
treatable, but getting treatment is an important factor. Florida Facts
